How do you go from Docker in a development environment, to a production environment?
It's a question that I've often been asked, and have asked several times. It's not a question for which I've had a good answer, though.
Sure, you can find all kinds of articles about container orchestration, management and auto-scaling at massive scales. There are plenty of big talks from huge companies and well-known speakers on this. But that doesn't help a developer on a small team, or someone working on their own. It doesn't provide a simple answer for learning and growth, either.
So, how do you go from Docker in development, and grow into a production environment, as needed?
In this interview, recorded on March 14th, 2017, Elton Stoneman talks with Derick about exactly that – Docker in a production environment.
At a high level, you’ll learn about what it takes to go from development to the most basic of production configurations, a more stable environment with Docker Swarm, deployment of multiple containers using a docker-compose.yml file, and then out to large-scale production and enterprise needs with Docker Datacenter.
Along the way, you’ll hear more about what “orchestration” is, get a clear understanding of how a Docker image can be monitored to ensure the application responds and learn how to quickly and easily scale an application.
If you've ever wondered where to look next, after you've created your own Docker image and built an application into it, this is interview will tell you.
And the best part is you can watch the full interview, FREE, on Docker's YouTube channel!
