With the core deployment of the media service done, it would be nice to have a proper DNS name to use. Sure, you could use the default “*.herokuapp.com” DNS name, but this doesn't look very nice and may change in the future. It would be better to have a DNS entry such as “media.watchmecode.net”.
In this episode, you'll see how to use DNSimple – my preferred and highly recommended DNS service provider. Watch and learn how to set up a basic DNS entry for this media service, including a mistake that was made with duplicating an existing entry. You'll also see what it takes to add the DNS name to your Heroku application, allowing Heroku to properly serve the application once the DNS entry has been created.
And if you don't have a preferred DNS service already, be sure to check out DNSimple (referral link). They provide some excellent one-click service configuration, and more!
